Reporting to a Principal Surveyor, Surveyors undertake audits and inspections on board Isle of Man registered ships, with a view to ensuring and maintaining the highest standards Surveyors are also required to attend the IMO representing the Isle of Man; to research particular technical topics with a view to providing advice on policy, and inspection methodology; to represent the Isle of Man whenever meeting with vessel operators, shipyard personnel and others associated with shipping.

From time to time may be required to conduct casualty investigations and other investigations. Such investigations require witness interviews, physical evidence collection, reconstruction and effective report writing. In some cases there may be a need for some deeper research into the factors involved.
